ANMF's media exposure tour gets good response from rural populace


Port Blair, 28 Aug: The Andaman & Nicobar Media Federation (ANMF) has organised its maiden media tour-cum-news coverage visit to various Panchayats of South Andaman today, which was organized with the sole aim to know about the status of various development projects under progress in the South Andaman as well as to know about the issues and problems faced by the rural populace.
Despite continuous rain since morning the ANMF determination and media persons' excitement made the programme a grand success. The visit has covered Dhanikhari Dam, Primary Health Centre Tushnabad, Govt. Primary and Middle School Ograbraj, Electricity Office Ograbraj, interaction with Mitakhari area farmers, Tsunami shelters, Govt. Secondary School Namunaghar, Hope Town Jetty, dilapidated Burma Jetty at Namunaghar, Pradhan Office Mitakhari and also witnessed the flooded fields along the roads in rural areas during the journey.
During the news coverage visit, media persons observed that some welfare projects benefitting the people, and people expressed their satisfaction over authorities, and many incomplete projects are still pending and left unattended by concern departments since many years.
The media persons also witnessed the dilapidated condition of schools, and challenges in health centre which still need to pay more attention by the concerned authorities to provide better services to the rural people. The people at most of the places narrated that despite registering of complaints or informing the concern departments nothing fruitful is coming out of the pleas as cutting of old trees on the sides of roads and rectifying old electric wires and upon other general issues.
However, the central government has been introducing and working on big projects as national high ways, bridges and laying of Optical Fibre Cable for the development of islands, but here the rural people cry for the basic infrastructure in the islands. Apart from that, the existing condition of roads are badly affecting the public service vehicles and parking place also becoming a matter of concern for survival, said some passenger vehicle operators at Tusnabad.
The AIR & DDK-the central government media houses also attended the tour and provided adequate coverage. Altogether, 22 media persons participated in the tour-cum-coverage visit to Panchayats and made it a great success in terms of crucial issues, which were examined and noted by media persons for media reports in coming days.
All the media persons have appreciated the efforts of ANMF for organising such Panchayat areas coverage programme in a well organised manner and conveyed hearty thanks to its President, Mr. K Ganeshan. The President, ANMF thanked the media persons for participating in the media exposure tour. He also assured that the issues will be taken up before the competent authorities in the Administration.

Based on an input, Andaman Nicobar Command took an operation on Nov. 25 and apprehended a Myanmarese Fishing boat named "Soe Wai Yan Htoo" in Andaman seas which was carrying approx. 6000 kgs of prohibited drug Methamphetamine.
