Two students drowned into Marina Park's sea water; Pondicherry University expresses gratitude to search operation forces

Port Blair, Oct 02: Two students of Pondicherry University Brookshabad unfortunately drowned into sea during their study based snorkeling at Marina Park's water on Sept 28, 2019.
As per reliable sources, a group of ten students of Marine Biology from Pondicherry University, Brookshabad have gone for study based snorkeling at Marina Pank for research on the subject they are studying. It was not the first time, but they used to go on a marine study few times ago at different locations in South Andaman.
But, unfortunately on Sept. 28, 2019 about 3.30 pm, among the ten students, Mr. Yagya Jyoti Jena (25 yrs), S/o G.C. Jena hailed from Manoharpur, Bhadrak (Dist.) Orissa (pursuing Ph.D. Marine Biology in Pondicherry University) and Mr. R. Dheeraj Kr. Reddy (22 yrs), S/o R. Sridhar Reddy of Chinna Chowk, Kadapa (Dist.), Andhra Pradesh (1st year student M.Sc. Marine Biology in Pondicherry University) gone missing from sight in the Marina Park water.
Finding something danger, in no time, one among the group have alarmed the Police by dialing 100, the Police team from Aberdeen Police Station have reached the spot and swung into action with all necessary equipments. The Police Officials have gathered detailed information about the missing students, meanwhile, underwater divers have started their search about the two drown students at around 4.15 pm.
During the search operation under the sea water at Marina Park done by divers of A&N Police Marine Force and Indian Naval Service with their Helicopter. The body of Mr. R. Dheeraj Kr. Reddy was found at 6.30 am on Sept. 29 at Marine Park water and sent to his native place same day. The search operation for other student was continued upto Sept. 30 evening, but in vain. On Oct 01, 2019 the body of Mr. Yagya Jyoti Jena was found floating in sea near Golf Yard area at Brichgunj, his body was sent to his native place on Oct. 02.
The Vice Chancellor, Pondicherry University and HoD of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology, Pondicherry University Brookshabad, Prof. Mohanraju have deeply condole the unfortunate demise of their students Yagya Jyoti Jena and R. Deeraj Kr. Reddy, and prays the almighty to give strength to bereaved family members for bear the irreparable loss. They further, expressed gratitude towards Andaman & Nicobar Police, Indian Naval Service, Andaman Nicobar Health Service and VSI airport authority for extending their selfless and rigorous service during the entire occurrence.
Citizens of Port Blair, who swam years ago in the Marina Park water says, "due to unaware about the sudden depth at Marina Park water despite sea is in low tide, then, the students went into sea upto the level unfortunate and occurred such accident. They should gather pre-knowledge before get into sea water, especially in Andaman & Nicobar water".
