11 foreign poachers with 3 engine dinghies apprehended by N&M Andaman Police

Kalighat, July 12: Poaching by Foreigners in the Islands territories is one of the major challenge for the Police in North and Middle Andaman District. Foreign Poachers from Myanmar are coming to collect sea wealth from A&N islands which have immense value in international market.

On receiving intelligence inputs regarding presence of foreign poachers' near Loha Tikery on various dated i.e. 07, 10 & 11 July, 2023 reacting swiftly, the police teams consisting of Insp. Anirudra Mondal, HC/ Khokan Das & Cts Rajkamal, Vikash, Gopal, Ganeshwar and HG Gautam Saha, HC/ Santosh Nair & Cts Bushaih, Devraj Nair was formed to conduct various Anti-poaching operations. The teams noticed poachers' movement in the mid-night and immediately jumped into action and tried to stop the poachers, but they did not stop and tried to escape into dense mangroves. The courageous Police team chased them and apprehended 11 Myanmar poachers along with their engine dinghy containing large quantity of sea cucumber & edible articles. All apprehended poachers were brought to PS Kalighat for enquiry. The poachers will be handed over to PS CCS for further investigation.

All operations was carried out under the direct supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP (D) N&MA and the developments during the operation were intimated to SP(D) N&MA by the team in real time using Satellite phone. The exemplary bravery shown by the anti-poaching teams have been lauded and they will be suitably rewarded.

The general public and fisherman who are venturing in sea is requested to pass and share any credible information pertaining to sighting of foreign boats/ nationals to their nearest PS or over Ph. No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. Identity will be kept secret and will be suitability rewarded.

The Biggest Drug Haul in the Maritime History: Myanmarese Fishing boat with approx. 6000 kgs of prohibited drug 'Methamphetamine' apprehended by ANC in Andaman Sea

- K Yadagiri Rao Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 27: It was a significant achievement in our nationís fight against the ongoing illegal drug trade with the seizure of the huge quantity of illegal drugs by Indian Coast Guard (ICG) of Andaman Nicobar Command in Andaman Seas creating history in the maritime domain in India. Based on an input, Andaman Nicobar Command took an operation on Nov. 25 and apprehended a Myanmarese Fishing boat named "Soe Wai Yan Htoo" in Andaman seas which was carrying approx. 6000 kgs of prohibited drug Methamphetamine.
