General Anil Chauhan inaugurates Wet Basin and Refit Jetty

Port Blair, July 09: The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM as part of his two-day visit to Andaman Nicobar Command (ANC) from 09 to 10 July, 2023, today i.e. on July 09 evening he inaugurated the newly constructed Wet Basin and Refit Jetty at NSRY, Port Blair.

Speaking on the inaugural function CDS said, “it is a great opportunity for me to inaugurate Wet Basin and Refit Jetty at NSRY here in A&N Islands, the ANC is an important part for our country, till now we have used for defensive facilities, but by developing this kind of facilities we would boost the refit capability of ANC in manifolds. I congratulate ANC and everyone took part in the project in completion of this work. He further expressed, people in our country have faith and respect towards defence personnel and we should maintain and improve it whatsoever. It is our individual responsibility that we should not do any work which directly or indirectly impacts on defence services negatively. Looking to the only operational Tri Service & Coast Guard Command of the country, I am very happy to be here and I extend my compliments to Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard personnel for working together, all the best.

Earlier, the Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN) welcomed the dignitary, all personnel of ANC, officials from Administration and esteemed partners of ALHW, IIT Madras members, M/s ITD Cementation Pvt. Ltd. dignitaries and assembled members of the press. He said, the Wet Basin & Refit Jetty Project was accorded GoI sanction in 2017 and was executed by HQ, ANC as Deposit Work through Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW) with a total sanction of Rs.395.20 Crores and the prime contractor was M/s ITD Cementation Pvt. Ltd. The project has unique features like the under-slung compartments below the Refit Jetty which are one of its kind in the country. This project is in line with the GoI initiative towards holistic development of the A&N Islands both for military and non-military purposes.

He further highlighted the efforts made during the implementation of the project in the entire 53 months. By operation of this jetty, it will not only improve the speed and efficiency of refits and repairs of compact units, but also provides additional berthing space, first of kind under-slung storage and conceive technical services are unique and notable state of yard features that the navy has been aspiring for. It is also a state of art project in which a jetty with under-slung compartments has been constructed along with office spaces and accommodation for troops.

- K Yadagiri Rao Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov 27: It was a significant achievement in our nationĂ­s fight against the ongoing illegal drug trade with the seizure of the huge quantity of illegal drugs by Indian Coast Guard (ICG) of Andaman Nicobar Command in Andaman Seas creating history in the maritime domain in India. Based on an input, Andaman Nicobar Command took an operation on Nov. 25 and apprehended a Myanmarese Fishing boat named "Soe Wai Yan Htoo" in Andaman seas which was carrying approx. 6000 kgs of prohibited drug Methamphetamine.
