497 bottles of 100 ml Codeine-based cough syrup were seized, and one person was arrested. SP (CID) is seeking information from the general public regarding illegal activities

Port Blair, Sept 29: It appears that some youths in these islands are not only consuming various drugs but also engaging in the illegal drug supply business, which has become a cause for concern regarding the future of the youth. A 28-year-old individual who already has two criminal cases under the Extortion Act and IT Act is now facing charges under the NDPS Act.
Youths at their age could attempt to crack government job exams, plan for legal online/offline businesses, pursue legal self-employment, or work for reputable agencies or organizations. However, choosing to engage in illegal businesses by any means may destroy the career and future of any individual.
Nevertheless, Shri Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, SP (CID), while addressing a press conference in his chamber today, said, ‘In continuation of our fight against drugs, acting on specific intelligence input, one person was arrested on 28/09/2023, namely Pushpa Raj Shukla (28 yrs.), residing in Garacharma, who was found in possession of a substantial quantity of Codeine-based Cough Syrup in his house at Garacharma’.
A total of 5 brown color carton boxes containing 497 bottles of 100 ml Codeine-based cough syrup 'CODMED-T' have been seized from his house, and the said person was arrested on the spot after following all codal formalities. A case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act-1985 has been registered at PS CCS. The investigation of this case is in progress.
The police team from the Narcotics Cell, CID, and PS CCS, consisting of Inspr. Vishal Ram, SHO PS CCS, Inspr. S. Kannan, I/c Narcotic Cell, CID Unit, SI Parvash, SI Mohd. Rahil Islam, HCs Sanjit Madhu, Sanjay Kujur, PCs Rajendran, Thanga Raj, Chandran, Nandita Mistry, Ratan Das, Vishal Kumar, and Raja Rao, under the supervision of Shri Vinay Mathur, DANIPS, Dy. SP, Narcotics, have successfully executed the operation.
‘The general public is requested to provide credible information pertaining to the sale or possession of contraband or any other illegal activity through the following telephone numbers: 100/112, 232586, 9531856080, 9474257242, 9434299028. The identity of the informer will be kept secret, and he/she will be suitably rewarded,’ he added.
