GB Pant Hospital regains trust with expert care amid ongoing challenges

TMI Bureau

Port Blair, June 19: The best doctors at GB Pant Hospital now excel in diagnosing and treating a variety of conditions, including cardiology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ear, nose, and throat (ENT), dermatology, and gastrointestinal diseases, as well as providing other general treatments. Consequently, they are setting new benchmarks in their respective fields.

During the initial setup of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital (GB Pant Hospital) earned a bad reputation for treating the public in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands due to a lack of coordination and management between the two institutions. Years ago, many patients were referred to hospitals on the mainland for further treatment, causing them to suffer financially and face language barriers in other states. However, most patients are now receiving treatment, including surgeries, at GB Pant Hospital, thanks to the skilled hands of the best doctors available. This marks a significant improvement in the health sector in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Public opinion suggests that GB Pant Hospital is regaining its former trust due to the excellent care provided by its current doctors. However, the hospital still faces challenges, such as the non-availability of proper operators for the latest testing equipment and a lack of proper medicines. Addressing these issues is crucial for GB Pant Hospital to become a preferred destination for all healthcare needs.

There is hope for an uplift in the health sector in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It is anticipated that the Secretary and Director of ANIIMS, along with the Secretary and Director of Health Services, will elevate GB Pant Hospital to provide super-specialty services. This will further enhance the hospital's reputation and ensure that residents of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands receive the highest quality healthcare locally.

The GB Pant Hospital has made significant strides in improving patient care and regaining public trust, continued efforts to address operational challenges and expand super-specialty services are essential for its continued success. Citizens hope the collaboration between ANIIMS and GB Pant Hospital holds promise for a brighter future in healthcare for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

No Mercy for Government Employees: Staff Forced to Stay Beyond Tenure in Southern and Northern Islands

TMI Bureau Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 23: When an employee receives a transfer order to the Southern or Northern group of islands, they prepare mentally for a specific tenure as outlined in the transfer policy. However, they often face numerous challenges, including the lack of accommodation, government quarters, guest houses, mess facilities, boat or ship services, and even reliable mobile connectivity-challenges that affect both male and more to female employees. In particular, police personnel, exhausted by their stressful duties and isolated from their families, are vulnerable to developing addictions, including alcoholism, which can negatively impact their lives. The prolonged and unjustified extension of postings in these remote islands leads to frustration, helplessness, and a decline in productivity, potentially causing depression. Despite completing their designated tenure, many employees find themselves trapped in these remote locations due to favoritism and influence, with...
