Port Blair, June 5: Shri Bishnu Pada Ray of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been elected Member of Parliament for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency. The election results were declared by Returning Officer Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, who presented the 'Certificate of Election' to Shri Ray. General Observer Shri Brajesh Narain Singh, IAS, was also present.

Shri Ray thanked the people for their support and outlined his priorities, including addressing drinking water and electricity issues, completing NH-4, securing job reservations for local youth, and implementing domicile laws. He emphasized the potential for tourism development and setting up ship repair yards to create job opportunities.

Shri Ray expressed gratitude to the administration, electoral officers, and his party workers for their efforts in conducting a fair election. He committed to working tirelessly for the development of the Islands and invited residents to contact him with their concerns. Following the announcement, BJP workers celebrated the victory with crackers and sweets.

Based on an input, Andaman Nicobar Command took an operation on Nov. 25 and apprehended a Myanmarese Fishing boat named "Soe Wai Yan Htoo" in Andaman seas which was carrying approx. 6000 kgs of prohibited drug Methamphetamine.
